Tasks and Aims
Through establishing and registering the DAUB in 1973, statutes were decided on, which also committed the national organisation to comply with the international aims. The DAUB possesses a structure according to which, the 3 important pillars involved in underground construction are represented according to parity: clients, scientists and consultants as well as contractors and the suppliers of tunnelling machinery. Each of these 3 groups is represented by up to 10 outstanding and experienced personalities. New members are chosen by the committee independently from among their colleagues in this field. A member of one of the 3 groups takes over as chairman on a rotating basis for 3 years. Members of DAUB work on an honorary basis. All aims are laid down in the statutes:
- co-ordinating work in the field of underground construction
- collecting and disseminating technical information pertaining to underground construction
- proposing, selecting and assessing research and development work
- predicting needs and collecting planning data for future projected underground structures
- involvement in setting up laws, standards, guidelines, safety regulations etc.
- promoting the training of engineers in the field of underground construction
- participating in international projects, which deal with underground construction.
