These recommendations have been revised based on the 2014 recommendations of the “Tübbing” working group of the German Committee for Underground Construction (DAUB). They provide an overview of the state of the art in the design, manufacture, and installation of ring segments in mechanical tunnel boring. The recommendations summarize the design principles and the necessary calculations and verifications for the design of a segment ring and take into account not only the applicable standards but also relevant guidelines and experience from completed projects. Among other things, they also consider the design of the lining for fire protection and the use of steel fibers. In addition to the design and dimensioning of the segments, the recommendations provide guidance on the manufacture of segment segments in the precast plant, their installation in the tunnel, and the design of connection and transition structures.
