Munich Metro Line 3 North, Contract Section 3 (Moosach)

The 361 m long contract section 3 North 3 links up with the neighbouring lot 2 to the west of the Bunzlauer Straße. The Metro lines underpass the tracks of the S-Bahn Line 1 and the Deutsche Bahn AG's Munich- Regensburg route and towards the west are located beneath the Memminger Platz and the Untermenzinger Straße. At the west end of the station stairways and escalators leading to the rapid transit system (S-Bahn) are available via the ticket hall. In the west there are sets of points and a three-track siding for three full-length trains. A Park & Ride facility for some 290 vehicles is positioned above the points and the sidings, which is connected with Memminger Platz by means of a ramp. To reduce the nuisance factor for local residents the entire contract section is being executed via the top cover construction method. Diaphragm walls are used for the sidings, which were previously sunk from the surface and then covered by the top cover structure. The subsequent excavation and roughwork operations then take place under the previously produced cover. Bore pile walls with reinforced concrete inner shell are used for a part-section of the sidings where there are buildings nearby as well as for the access ramp for the Park & Ride facility at Memminger Platz for technical reasons. The 5-track DB facility has to be undercut in several phases. Towards this end a number of tracks have to be relocated in order to set up individual construction sites with level crossings. Bore piles, back-anchored sheet pile walls and subsequently top covers as well as the walls including protective concrete for sealing them then have to be installed. In the west part of the contract section the top cover is produced in two halves. In this way it is possible to maintain one lane per direction of travel as well as a footpath, which is only available temporarily at one side of the road, on the Untermenzinger Straße and Gröbenzeller Straße throughout the entire construction phase. During the course of the construction operations the alignment of the road and the footpath has to be switched on a number of occasions. The groundwater lowering measures by and large are restricted to interior water drainage and relieving the confined groundwater bearing layers of sand beneath the base of the structure. The "waterproof trough" must be integrated in the diaphragm walls and the bore piling down to the base (depth up to 30 m). The inclined bore piles for the neighbouring buildings must be regarded as a special challenge.
