S-Bahn München - Flughafen

The entire construction lot is split up into four main sections from west to east, namely

  • the approx. 406 m long ramp construction, in which the S-Bahn tracks dip into the tunnel from the surface
  • the approx. 580 m long western running tunnel
  • the approx. 360 m long station building
  • and the approx. 369 m long eastern tunnel with turning point.

The entire construction lot is located in quaternary gravels. The tunnels are located at up to 13 m below the lane surface. The groundwater table is some 2.5 m beneath the surface. The terminal zone was surrounded by curtain walls, which are integrated in the thick marl of the groundwater accumulation. The curtain walls are secured via steel girder reinforcements. The eastern and western running tunnels as well as the ramp construction were on the other hand, secured via anchored sheet pile walls on the basis of a special proposal. As the groundwater could not be lowered, the excavation was first of all completed under water protected by the construction trench support and then a base secured against uplift made of underwater concrete installed. Subsequently, the excavations could be pumped dry and the actual tunnels completed.
