Tunnel Euerwang

From north to south the Euerwang Tunnel first of all passes through 3Q-50 m thick Lias sandstone (Dogger) comprising 2 facies zones (sandy and clayey) over a distance of 5,700 m. The interbedded fine sandstones and fine clay stones form an extremely heterogeneous ground structure. The sandstones possess a very varied granulation. Both the fine sandstone and the clay stone disaggregate extremely quickly in the event of ingressing water and mechanical strain. After approx. 5,500 m, Ornaten clay is to be found in the roof zone, which subsequently dips below the tunnel cross-section. In the southern 1,000 to 1,500 m, Oxford lime and marl rocks (Malm) are penetrated. The drive is undertaken with blasting and excavators with 4 main points-of-attack using shotcreting. In parts, the base must be closed at once where the ground is very disintegrated. The heading on the northern side began under the protection of a top cover on account of the thin overburden. The tunnel is located in groundwater with the exception of a few segments. There are 2 groundwater levels along the tunnel route, the upper in limestone, the lower in Lias sandstone. The Ornaton clay forms the separating layer between the 2 groundwater storeys. ln its final state, the ground will be sealed in such a way, thanks to corresponding grouting measures that only a third of the groundwater otherwise running into the tunnel will have to be removed through the portals The tunnel will be equipped with 7 additional rescue ways and emergency shafts with cross-sections of up to 30 m, which are designed in accordance with the valid guidelines of Fire and Catastrophe Protection. After completion of the inner shell, the solid track (FF) designed for speeds of 300 km/h will be installed.
