Light Rail Dortmund, Line II, Lot 27 and 28 a

The measure included carrying out the carcass work for the Möllerbrücke Station, the Kreuzstrasse Station and the running tubes linking the 2 stations. It is located in a high-class residential area so that special demands were posed on ensuring that the project was executed in such a way that the environment and local residents suffered as little as possible in spite of constricted construction conditions. The entire construction lot was provided with a mass-spring system for subsequent urban railway services as a noise abatement measure. The running tubes were exclusively constructed by mining means. The structures to be completed by mining means pass beneath the existing traffic arteries and buildings with up to 5 storeys calling for as sophisticated construction methods designed to reduce settlements as much as possible. ln geological terms, the tunnel sections are located in practically horizontally bedded marl and marl rock from the cretaceous system with compressive strengths of up to 40 MN/m² The groundwater or seeping precipitation is only perceptible in the form of circulating fissure water in the marl layers. The depth of the Möllerbrücke Station has been chosen in such a way that S-Bahn services could be maintained via an ancillary bridge so that the station could be built with trains running directly above. The driving and securing of the various tunnel cross-sections was undertaken with shotcreting with a stepped face. By and large, supporting was accomplished by means of a reinforced shotcrete shell. Steel arches, bolts and if need be, lances and fore poling sheets. Roadheaders were required for cutting purposes when passing below the building for this was the only way to ensure that the ground received gentle treatment and that settlements were confined to a minimum. However, excavators and blasting to loosen the ground along with far-reaching oscillation speed measurements were applied for the 3-stage station storage facility area.
