Light Rail Dortmund, Line II , Lot 28 b

The new urban railway line is due to replace the existing surface tram link between the centre of Dortmund and the suburb of Hombruch. The entire construction measure comprises an approx. 990 m long, 2-track level section, with an adjoining 172 m long ramp section. The first 90 m of the 2-track ramp was built by the trough method and the remaining 82 m as a cut-and-cover tunnel. Two single- track tunnel tubes, each 603 m in length were then driven using shotcreting. The excavated cross-section amounts to roughly 38 m² per tunnel tube. In the starting zone, the tubes are mainly located in rocky marl from the cretaceous age. As the heading progressed, the geology changed. Considerably harder sandstone benches, interbedded in the marl, constantly became thicker in the direction of tunnelling. On account of the alternating geology, the 2 tunnel tubes were created by means of excavators and blasting. The one-track tunnel tubes were driven parallel. The overburden amounts to between 2 and 6 m over the roof. There is an emergency shaft between the 2 tubes after roughly 208 m of the tunnel section, which can be reached via crosscuts from both tubes. These crosscuts were driven by mining means using shotcrete. A future tunnel route for the federal highway B 1 above the urban railway tunnel also had to be taken into consideration. This road tunnel is to be built by cut-and-cover with a minimum overburden of 1.20 m to the urban railway tunnel. The outer and inner shells must be designed in such a way that the tunnel tubes can be exposed when still in operation and the road tunnel erected above them. The inner shell of the urban railway tunnel comprises watertight WU concrete 35 with a shell thickness of 35 cm and 45 cm in the zone where the future B1 tunnel is to be constructed. The inner and outer shells are separated from each other by means of a nonwoven material.
