Metro Munich, Line U3 North, Contract Section2, Stations Moosach and Leipziger Straße with running tunnels

The existing Underground network in the regional capital of Munich is being extended in the northwest of the city by a further part-section of the Line U 3, which is already operating. The contract runs in a straight line from west to east. It by and large, involves the production of 3 stations, the tunnel routes, an emergency exit as well as far-reaching groundwater and traffic diversion measures. The 4 single-track tunnels with lengths ranging from 509 to 694 m are to be driven by means of a hydro-shield and single shell-lining. From the starting shaft at Moosach Station, the tunnelling machine passes through the Leipziger Straße Station and finishes up at the diaphragm wall of the Olympia Einkaufszentrum Station, which is already in service. The tunnelling work required for this project is characterised in a special manner by: built-up areas in close proximity to the shield drive and relatively shallow overburden along practically the entire route given high groundwater levels and the fact that the 2 tunnel tubes are set very close to one another. The 18 m wide and 212 m long Moosach Station is located at a depth of 15 m. The structure is to be produced in a tertiary excavation pit using the diaphragm wall/top cover construction method. The 1.20 m thick diaphragm walls serve to secure the excavation and also act as the watertight walls of the final structure. The 120 m long station platform is located roughly 11 m below the surface and is 7.40 m wide. The Leipziger Straße excavation pit is 202 m long, 18 m wide and extends some 16 m below the surface. It is to be produced in the same fashion as the Moosach Station. The platform level will be connected to the surface via 2 distribution levels, in which daylight is integrated.
