U5 Hamburg, new Line U5 East, City-Nord-Bramfeld

A new, approx. 5.8 km long subway line with six stops is planned for the development of the districts Bramfeld, Steilshoop, Barmbek Nord and City Nord (U5 East).

The U5 is to be operated as a fully automatic system GoA4 (Grade of Automation 4), deviating from the existing network. Approx. 5 km of the entire line will be constructed using shield tunnelling with a 2-track shield.

In the area of the shield section there are four stop structures and five emergency exit structures, which will be erected using the open construction method. The shaft structures of the emergency exits will be traversed by the TVM. Subsequently, the segments will be removed and replaced by an open construction method. Tunnel driving begins in a starting shaft north of the Rübenkamp S-Bahn stop and ends in Bramfeld in the area of the later sweeping and parking facility in a target shaft. Both excavation pits will be extended to further emergency exit structures after rescue by TVM. The shaft structures will be constructed in groundwater as diaphragm walls with an underwater concrete base. The shaft depth (up to OK UWB-bottom) is approx. 30 m. For reasons of driving dynamics, a hilltop (bus stop) or tank route is planned. The overlaps therefore vary between approx. 8 and 20 m.

The tunnel mainly crosses glacial deposits of the Saale cold period consisting of cohesive bedload soils, meltwater sand, basin silt and basin sand.
